ESA PWA brings experience in assessing and developing solutions for inland and coastal flood management issues. Our work ranges from floodplain delineation and flood mapping for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to the development of regional-scale flood management plans for county flood control districts and water agencies.
We seek to promote environmentally conscious and sustainable flood management strategies that create added value as habitat enhancement projects replacing traditional single-objective flood management plans for river corridors. Our work has received support from local stakeholders who value a multi-objective approach to resolving flood issues. Special areas of expertise include coastal floodplain management that evaluates the trade-offs between traditional armoring approaches and alternatives such as managed retreat and development setbacks.
Our expertise includes: floodplain delineation, one- and two-dimensional hydraulic
modeling, dam breach modeling, estuarine and coast hydraulic modeling, engineering
design and development of construction documents, construction support, pre-
and post-project monitoring.
