Project Summary This project provides the regional coastal management agencies with a set of policy, management and project recommendations to reduce beach erosion. PWA identified sediment sources and physical and ecological constraints to minimize impacts and promote recreation and tourism.

Title   FEMA Guidelines for Coastal Flood Hazard Analysis and Mapping  
Project Summary PWA played a key role in revising the FEMA guidelines for the mapping of coastal hazards on the Pacific Coast, and led focused technical studies on wave transformation, wave run-up, and overtopping of structures.

Title   Surfer’s Point   Surfers Point Beach in Seaside Park in the City of San Buenaventura
Project Summary Surfer’s Point near the mouth of the Ventura River combines a managed retreat of infrastructure and facilities with a cobble and beach nourishment project and mimics the natural environment, provides space for coastal processes, and enhances habitat and recreational opportunities.

Title   Crissy Field Coastal Lagoon Restoration  
Project Summary This multi-objective project restored a 14-acre National Park System coastal lagoon. PWA designed, and routinely monitors, the site, which is largely influenced by wave-driven sand transport inside San Francisco Bay.

Title   Pacifica State Beach Managed Retreat, Beach and Estuary Restoration  
Project Summary This award winning managed retreat project reduced flooding hazards by realigning oceanfront property and infrastructure away from coastal erosion hotspots, and restored estuarine functioning on San Pedro Creek.
