CIVIL ENGINEER/ASSOCIATE
Sacramento

PWA is seeking a civil engineer to join our Sacramento office. The successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will be manage hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tasks in support of stormwater and flood management, creek and river restoration, and watershed management projects.

Position Responsibilities

You will work closely with our existing team of hydrologists, geomorphologists, and restoration design engineers to perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, prepare civil design drawings using AutoCAD, collect and interpret field data and provide engineering oversight on a variety of projects. In any given week, you may: develop a rainfall-runoff model to evaluate hydrologic impacts of a development project, design biotechnical structures to stabilize a stream bank, write a report describing a hydraulic analysis of floodplain restoration; or oversee the collection of field data needed for hydraulic modeling.

Requirements

You must have an M.S. or higher degree in civil engineering or a closely related field with a strong technical foundation in hydrology and hydraulics, and at least two years of consulting experience. A B.S. degree with appropriate experience will be considered. Required technical skills include proficiency in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and AutoCAD. Training and/or experience in fluvial geomorphology, field data collection, and/or GIS are desirable.

You must have excellent writing skills and the ability to work effectively on teams with a variety of stakeholders and other professionals. PWA works primarily in California, but has projects throughout the West and beyond; some travel is required. Current eligibility to work in the US is required.

SENIOR COASTAL ENGINEER
San Francisco

PWA is seeking a Coastal Engineer to join our San Francisco office. The successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will be to manage, and/or lead technical analyses for, a variety of coastal management projects addressing erosion, flooding, restoration, and planning issues. The position also includes staff supervision and mentoring.

Position Responsibilities

You will work closely with our existing team of hydrologists, geomorphologists, and restoration design engineers to carry out studies on shoreline management, flood mapping, beach restoration, tidal inlet analysis, and design of shore and wetland restoration. In any given week, you may be guiding technical analysis of coastal processes for a beach erosion management project; developing a plan for tidal lagoon restoration based on a study of tidal inlet evolution; or presenting results of wave analyses to stakeholders for a tidal wetland restoration project.

Requirements

You must have an MS or higher degree with a strong technical foundation in coastal and estuarine engineering, four or more years of consulting and project management experience, and a P.E. Training and/or experience with Pacific coastal systems and familiarity with the CA regulatory environment are desirable.

SENIOR FLUVIAL GEOMORPHOLOGIST
San Francisco

PWA is seeking a fluvial geomorphologist to join our San Francisco office. The successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will be to manage, and/or lead geomorphic investigations for, a wide range of river and floodplain evaluation, restoration and management projects.

Position Responsibilities

You will work closely with our engineering design team to develop restoration plans, and will be the lead author on reports and presentations. You may work with our coastal processes team on tidal channel flood problems and restorations. In any given week you may be leading an investigation to diagnose the causes of habitat degradation in a large river system, presenting an environmental alternative for a flood management project to a group of stakeholders, supervising a sediment transport study of a dam removal, or putting together a proposal for a river restoration plan.

Requirements

You must have an MS or higher degree with a strong technical foundation in fluvial geomorphology, and four or more years of project management experience. Training and/or specialized experience in sediment transport, hydraulic engineering, and engineering design are all desirable.

You must have excellent writing skills and the ability to work effectively on teams with a variety of stakeholders. You will need a good sense of humor. HYDRAULIC ENGINEER
San Francisco

PWA is seeking a hydraulic engineer to join our San Francisco office. The successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will be to support our environmental restoration design, river and floodplain evaluation, and flood hazard analysis projects with hydraulic engineering expertise.

Position Responsibilities

You will work closely with our existing team of hydrologists, geomorphologists, and restoration design engineers to provide hydraulic analysis and design expertise on a wide variety of projects. In any given week, you may develop design criteria for hydraulic structures used in a stream restoration design, lead a hydraulic modeling study of flood hazard at a tidally-influenced river mouth, provide quality control review of the basis of design for a levee project, or develop a scope of work to develop environmental alternatives for a flood control project.

Requirements

You must have a BS or higher degree with a strong technical foundation in hydraulic engineering, specialized experience with natural systems and open channel flow, and a P.E. Extensive familiarity with one-dimensional hydraulic modeling methods and programs is required, and experience with two-dimensional modeling is desirable. Training and/or experience in fluvial geomorphology, hydraulic structure design and flood hazard analysis are all desirable, as are experience with FEMA and USACE projects, methods and regulations. Ideally, you will have prior project management experience in a consulting or government agency setting.

You must have excellent writing skills and the ability to work effectively on teams with a variety of stakeholders and other professionals. The successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will be to manage a wide range of stormwater management, rainfall-runoff analysis, and stream restoration projects, and expand our capabilities in these areas. Typical project elements include evaluating potential environmental impacts from urban runoff, predicting flood flows, and developing creative, environmentally-sensitive runoff management solutions.

Position Responsibilities

You will work closely with our existing team of hydrologists, geomorphologists, and restoration design engineers to conduct field investigations, develop computer models and interpret results, and develop stormwater management concepts and designs. In addition to conducting analyses and developing creative solutions, you will work closely with clients, stakeholders and regulatory agencies to facilitate project implementation.

Requirements

You must have an MS or higher degree with a strong technical foundation in watershed science or engineering hydrology, and specialized experience in stormwater management. Training and/or experience in rainfall-runoff modeling, hydraulic modeling, stormwater management practices and regulation, and Low Impact Development are all desirable. Ideally, you will have prior project management experience in a consulting or government agency setting.
