PWA is seeking a Coastal Engineer/Scientist to join our San Francisco office. The successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will be quantitative analysis of physical processes in support of coastal zone engineering and management projects. This position is mid to senior level, and includes providing technical supervision and leadership, developing technical approaches for particular project goals / objectives, and presenting results to clients.

Position Responsibilities

You will work closely with our existing team of hydrologists, geomorphologists, and restoration design engineers, to help our clients manage coastal resources. In any given week, you may: evaluate wave climate, model wind wave generation, model wave transformations, develop field data collection plans,  calculate longshore sand transport, model shoreline evolution, estimate erosion rates, map coastal erosion and flooding hazard zones, contribute to regional shoreline management plans and strategies to adapt to sea level rise, contribute to designs for shoreline realignment and back-shore restoration, analyze tidal inlets and contribute to inlet management plans.

Requirements

You must have a Masters of Science or higher degree with a strong technical foundation in physical coastal processes including wave theory and modeling applications. Demonstrated experience with wave transformation modeling is required. Education in basic coastal morphology such as equilibrium profiles and planforms, and longshore sand transport is required. Desirable but not required experience includes coastal / civil engineering design (including a professional civil engineers license), consulting, and experience with wave transport of fine, cohesive sediment (e.g. San Francisco Bay mud).

You must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively on teams with a variety of stakeholders and other professionals.
